Remote Rollovers
(Set Image URL)

This tutorial teaches how to use the Set Image URL Action to create Remote Rollovers in Adobe GoLive 5. Before you go any farther, take a look at the end result, so you can see what I will be building, then return to this page to see how to create this effect.

The figure below shows how the original design was pieced together from a collection of sliced images. The three categories, Web Consultation, Web Development and Adobe GoLive Training, became image rollovers.

I then added the Set Image URL Action, known as a Remote Rollover, to the Mouse Enter state of each of the rollovers which will replace the image in the center (called Notable Factoids) with a different image. The result is that the image the mouse goes over changes, and at the same time, an image elsewhere on the page changes.

Please note that although the center image appears to be text, it is really a GIF. There is also an image map on the Notable Factoids GIF, so that if the visitor chooses to, he or she can surf to one of the links directly. I have made the words which are linked in the image map resemble a text link by adding color and an underline to them before turning them into a GIF... Next >>
